Moving to Phoenix Arizona

If you're planning a move to Phoenix this is the step-by-step guide to help you get there.

Approximately one month before your scheduled move you'll want to contact your local post office and complete the forms necessary to transfer your mail. You'll also want to contact the Phoenix area utilities to schedule connection of your new services. If you will be using APS then you'll need to call 602 371-7171 or 800 263-9405. If you are using the Salt River Project (SRP) for your water and electricity you will want to call 602 236-8888.

Moving To Phoenix : Cleaning Services

At the three week mark you'll want to find a cleaning service that will come to your new home a few days before your relocation to make sure it is move-in ready when you arrive. Phoenix has several reputable cleaning companies and a brief check of the phone book yellow pages will provide you with a number of good options.

Moving To Arizona : Finding a Doctor

You should also contact your family physicians and have your medical records transferred to your new doctors. If you have not selected a physician, check with your new employers. Insurance often dictates which doctors fit into your health coverage plan and will provide you with a list of acceptable options. Make a list of criteria that is important to you and contact several of the listed physicians, dentists, pediatricians, etc to see who fits your specifications before you select your health care providers. You may also want to research locations and find one that is convenient for the entire family. Once you have selected your new doctors, contact them and let them know that your medical records will be arriving and schedule any appointments necessary at that time.

Moving To Phoenix : Schools

If you have children you should also contact their old schools to have records sent to your new school district. There are 29 school districts in Phoenix; check http://phoenix.gov/EDUCATN/schdist.html to get the phone number of your new school and contact them directly regarding enrollment. You also may want to ask the school if they can recommend a local babysitter or service to help distract your children on the day of the move.

Moving To Phoenix : Banking

At this point you'll also want to begin making arrangements with your banks. If you belong to a national chain, your local office can help you with the transfer. If you belong to a smaller bank consider asking your financial advisor for a recommendation and for assistance in making the shift.

Moving To Arizona : Insurance

Two weeks before your move you’ll want to make sure the insurance on your old home is scheduled for cancellation and that the new insurance is ready to begin. You will also want to make sure you have enough prescriptions and arrange for the record transfer to your new pharmacy. Your new doctors can recommend a pharmacy they have established relationships with and one that is near your new home.

You will now want to contact your local newspaper and cancel your subscription and schedule a new one with one of Phoenix’s papers. Check out this website http://www.abyznewslinks.com/uniteazph.htm to decide which newspapers you want to receive.
